{"id":952,"date":"2026-08-31T08:41:47","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T08:41:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ont.io\/news\/?p=952"},"modified":"2026-08-31T09:05:43","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T09:05:43","slug":"ontology-mainnet-emergency-pause-for-comprehensivesecurity-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ont.io\/news\/ontology-mainnet-emergency-pause-for-comprehensivesecurity-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Ontology Mainnet Emergency Pause for Comprehensive Security Review"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dear Ontology Community,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ontology core development team has identified a <strong>potential security concern during our daily security check that requires immediate investigation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a precautionary measure, and with the security and integrity of the Ontology Mainnet as our highest priority, <strong>block production on the Ontology Mainnet will be temporarily suspended with immediate effect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This emergency pause is being initiated proactively to allow the technical team and network validators to conduct a <strong>comprehensive security review of the network and its related components<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>No Current Impact on User Assets<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would like to emphasize that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>No confirmed security incident has been identified at this time.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>There is currently no indication of any loss or compromise of user assets.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ONT, ONG, and other on-chain assets remain unaffected based on our current assessment.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The temporary suspension is a <strong>preventive security measure<\/strong>, rather than a response to confirmed asset loss or an ongoing attack.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution to ensure that any potential risk is fully assessed before normal network operations resume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Network Status<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the emergency security review:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Block production will remain temporarily suspended.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On-chain transactions will not be processed while the network is paused.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Users should <strong>not attempt to perform time-sensitive on-chain transactions<\/strong> until the network has been officially confirmed to have resumed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Users do <strong>not<\/strong> need to transfer or otherwise take action with their ONT, ONG, or other on-chain assets as a result of this announcement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The duration of the pause is currently <strong>undetermined<\/strong>. We will prioritize the thoroughness of the security review over speed and will not resume block production until the network has been sufficiently assessed and deemed safe to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Next Steps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ontology team is treating this matter as a top priority and is working closely with validators and relevant ecosystem partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will provide further updates through the official Ontology channels as soon as more information becomes available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A separate announcement will be issued before or at the time of network resumption, once the security review and any required upgrades have been successfully completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We understand that an unexpected network pause may cause concern or inconvenience.
